Seed Grant


The BDCI Summit Seed Grants are awarded annually to groups that form and pitch original research ideas at the annual BDCI Summit. In advance of the Summit each year, the BDCI will release the theme for the event, which helps to focus brainstorming efforts. After a morning of networking and faculty lightning talks, individuals are invited to form groups, brainstorm, and pitch original research ideas towards the Summit theme. The winning groups will be provided with seed funds to pilot and/or de-risk these innovative team science projects over a 6-month funding period. 

For the inaugural BDCI Summit in 2022, we had 6 groups form and pitch exciting, new ideas around the topic of driving innovation in precision medicine. Ultimately, 2 groups were selected for funding and were given $5,000/person across 6-months to pilot their idea. Read more about these projects below: 

Team 1: The effect of radiation therapy on NAD+ redox homeostasis in cancer cells

  • Yueming Zhu, PhD - Pharmacology and Chemical Biology

Team 2: Repurposing and modifying known drugs for chemoresistant prostate cancer

  • Frank McDonald, PhD - Chemistry
  • Daqing Wu, PhD - Biological Sciences (Clark Atlanta University)
